Introduction
Edinburgh Leisure manages an extensive portfolio of sports and leisure
facilities for the City of Edinburgh Council, including sports and
leisure centres, swimming pools, sailing schools and golf courses.
As
a not-for-profit organisation, Edinburgh Leisure is committed to
helping residents of the Scottish capital get fit and stay active.
Following
the development of strong corporate identity, the organisation had
a comprehensive offline marketing strategy to actively target a broad
audience. The website provides a searchable database of facilities, activities
and events being held within Edinburgh.
Project Brief
Edinburgh Leisure was keen to ensure that the website would act
as a cornerstone of their marketing mix. With 32 centre management
sites, the website development was undertaken in conjunction with
a technical rollout onsite.
The new computers and ISDN access would
enable local amenities to streamline administration. As part of
the website’s development, each of the
centres required ‘micro management’ of information such as
news, events, promotions and activities listings, timetables and facilities
available.
Our Approach
The new corporate identity provided
the look and feel for the website. The newmediabureau was
tasked with ensuring that the website’s
design supported the offline marketing effort by creating a
positive user
experience.
We incorporated a template-based
interface with a back-end database. This ensured that the website’s
content could be manipulated for specific searches, delivered
within a consistent framework. Edinburgh
Leisure staff manage the site’s content via the the
newmediabureau's
Web Management System, which allows devolved administrators
to manage
micro-sites for
each facility.
Results
The website has become an integral part of promoting the fitness
facilities around the Scottish capital. Edinburgh Leisure’s
integrated marketing strategy has seen traffic to the website grow
steadily since the launch earlier this year.
